Sage Francis is the first rapper to sign with the punk label Epitaph Records. He is the owner/president of STRANGE FAMOUS RECORDS, the co-founder of the consumer activist website Knowmore.org and he has toured the world many times over.
Sage began releasing his special brand of DIY/confessional hip-hop on an "independent as f*ck" level in 1996. In 1997 he started a band called Art Official Intelligence, releasing their first CD in 1998. He hosted a college radio hip-hop show called "True School Session" on 90.3 WRIU from 1997-2000 while making a name for himself by winning poetry slams and emcee battles (most notably the highly esteemed Scribble Jam Emcee Battle in 2000.)
Since then Sage has released some of the highest selling and most influential indie-hop albums on various labels before finding his home with Epitaph Records. His latest album, Human the Death Dance, will be followed up by two releases in 2009. The most recent track, "Conspiracy to Riot" was released for free to the public after his friend Jared Paul was arrested on trumped up charges at the Republican National Convention. That song, along with an explanation of the mass arbitrary arrests at the RNC, is available as a free download at www.ConspiracyToRiot.com (less)
